Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will arrive with self-developed Oryon CPU

Qualcomm today officially announced that Oryon CPU will be soon available on mobile platform, opening up a new generation of gaming experience.

Qualcomm today at the China International Digital Entertainment Industry Conference (CDEC) event announced that the Qualcomm Oryon CPU will soon be available on the Snapdragon mobile platform, establishing a new generation of mobile gaming experience. However, it isn’t confirmed yet, but we can safely assume that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may become the first mobile SoC to bring this architecture. After a long period of internal testing, the Oryon CPU is finally making its debut on mobile SoCs. Previously, the company employed ARM’s Cortex-X4 on Snapdragon’s 8 Gen 3 combined with Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520 cores.

Besides, we already know that this year’s Snapdragon Summit will be held in Maui, Hawaii from October 21st to October 23rd, and the next-generation flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be unveiled at that time. Based on previous reports, the frequency of the self-developed super-core of Snapdragon 8 Gen4 has reached 4.2GHz. A manufacturer’s laboratory prototype has achieved GeekBench 6 single-core scores at 2,845 and multi-core scores are around 10,200, revitalizing the limit of mobile phone SoC. It also scored more than 31 lakhs on the Antutu benchmark, making it significantly more powerful than its predecessor.

Furthermore, it is reported that the most powerful Apple A17 Pro currently has a single-core power of 2999 and a multi-core power of 7903, while Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen3 has a single-core power of 2213 and a multi-core power of 7466. The Snapdragon 8 Gen4 not only has huge improvements over the old models, but it is also far ahead of Apple in terms of multi-core results.

In addition, Snapdragon 8 Gen4 will use TSMC’s 3nm process for the first time, which also means that the Android camp has entered the 3nm era. If nothing unexpected happens, the Xiaomi 15 series will still be the global first launch this time. Overall, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be a very powerful chip, providing a great gaming experience as well as multitasking. It would be interesting to see how the self-developed Oryon CPU will improve the overall experience as far as performance is concerned.
