MediaTek Dimensity 700 vs 720 vs Snapdragon 768G: Antutu-Geekbench Scores

MediaTek Dimensity 700 vs Dimensity 720 vs Snapdragon 768G in-depth comparison, Antutu-Geekbench Benchmark Scores, CPU, GPU, AI, Connectivity and More

MediaTek has launched a new player in its Dimensity series to extend its mid-range 5G chipset lineup. The company has added the MediaTek Dimensity 700 to the series and has been launched as a predecessor of the previously launched Dimensity 720 SoC. The SoC really very similar to Dimenisty 720, with some minor cut-downs in the specs and hardware to make it more affordable.

I am going to discuss the new Dimensity 700 SoC in context with Dim 720 to provide a clear vision of this new SoC. This comparison will also have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC because this SoC is a direct competitor of these two SoCs from MediaTek.

1
Fabrication Process

The fabrication of all three SoCs is the same, i.e., 7nm, but there is a slight difference that needs to be noticed. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 and 720 are fabbed over the 7nm N7P fabrication, a product of TSMC. In contrast, the Snapdragon 768G has Samsung’s EUV-based 7nm fabrication, which is a bit more enhanced.

The fabrications are still pretty much similar. Hence, it can be assumed to provide a comparable power-efficient design.

2
CPU Performance & Cores Distribution

Only the Snapdragon 768G is the one with a triple cluster CPU design; otherwise, the rest of the two Dimensity contenders come with a dual-cluster design.

The Snapdragon 768G has 1 Kryo 475 Prime, 1 Kryo 475 Gold, and 6 Kryo 475 Silver cores reaching a maximum clock speed of 2.8GHz. Here is the exact core configuration of the SD 768G’s CPU.

  • 1x Cortex-A76 @2.8 GHz (Kryo 475 Prime)
  • 1x Cortex-A76 @2.4 GHz  (Kryo 475 Gold)
  • 6x Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz (Kryo 475 Silver)

Coming to the Dimensity 700 and 720 SoCs, there is no huge difference in the CPU design. Both have 2 Cortex-A76 performance cores and 6 Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. The difference comes in the clock speed of the cores. The Dimensity 720 has all the cores clocked at 2.0GHz, whereas the Dimensity 700 has 2 performance cores boosted to 2.2GHz clock speed. Here is how the CPU cores have been distributed in both chips.

  • 2x Cortex-A76 @2.0/2.2GHz
  • 6x Cortex-A55 @2.0 GHz

MediaTek’s strange move is that the Dimenesity 700 has more clock speed than the Din 720, but it’s true. Maybe overclocking the cores doesn’t cost extra to the company.

3
GPU & Gaming Performance

The gaming performance in the Dimensity 700 has been compromised a bit. Although the GPU of both the Dimensity chips is the same, i.e., Mali G57 GPU, the difference is in the number of cores. There is an MC2 (2-core) GPU in the Dim 700 with 950MHz clock speed, whereas the Dimensity 720 has the MC3 (3-core) GPU.

The Snapdragon 768G SoC has Qualcomm’s Adreno 620 GPU with a clock speed of 720MHz. This is the same GPU used in the SD 765G but is slightly overclocked from 625MHz.

Here the gaming and GPU performance departments are very similar. But, since the max clocked GPU is in the Dimensity 700, it can perform superior at the cost of slight efficiency compromises.

4
AnTuTu-Geekbench Benchmark Scores

AnTuTu Benchmarks Scores

The Snapdragon 768G has an average AnTuTu score of about 3,60,000 points, whereas Dimensity 720 has seen an average score of 3,00,000, which is comparable to the Snapdragon 765G. The Dimensity 700 is a new SoC now, but the benchmarks are not available. But I am expecting the same AnTuTu score with this chip, just like Dim 720.

Geekbench Benchmarks Scores

The Snapdragon 768G is ahead in the game here as well. The chip has a score of 702 and 1957 in Single-Core and Multi-Core scores. Whereas the Dimensity 720 has 507 and 1650 points in the Single and Multi-Core sections.

5
AI Performance

The company has not claimed any serious AI-dedicated performance for any of these chips from MediaTek’s house. Hence, in my opinion, you can expect a decent and more than enough AI performance from the Dimensity chips that include camera-related basic AI performance and digital assistants’ support.

However, the Snapdragon 768G is a bit enhanced in this section. There is the company’s Hexagon 696 DSP fitted in the 5th Gen AI Engine. Making it reach up to 5.4TOPS of AI speed.

6
Camera & ISP department

This department is also almost the same in both the chips. Both have the same Image Signal Processor (ISP) along with the same camera support and AI features. Both the chips support up to a 64MP single camera. The dual camera support is slightly better in Dimensity 720, i.e., 24MP + 16MP, which is limited to just 20MP + 16MP in MediaTek Dimensity 700.

The video encoding/decoding of up to 4k @ 30fps has been provided to Dimensity 720, which has also been limited to just 2k @ 30fps in the predecessor. The Snapdragon 768G has Qualcomm’s Spectra 355 ISP that supports up to 36MP single camera support and up to 22MP + 22MP Dual cameras support.

However, Qualcomm says that the single-camera support of up to 192MP can be achieved via compromising MFNR and ZSL. As far as the video recording is concerned, the SD 768G can record 4k videos at 30fps. Also, the chip comes with support for HDR10 and 10+ encoding and decoding.

7
RAM, Storage & Display

Both, Dimensity 700 and 720 come with the support of up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM of up to 2133MHz. Also, the Snapdragon 768G is no different. It also has the same LPDDR4x @ 2133MHz RAM support. However, the RAM capacity is unknown.

The storage support of UFS2.2 is provided in Dimensity 700 and 720, but Dim 700 also has 2-lane (dual-channel) memory support bringing the storage support up to 1Gbps. However, the storage support for SD 768G is not known as of now as the company has not mentioned anything about this.

Coming to the display support, MediaTek has retained the FHD+ display support with up to 90Hz refresh rate in both chips. Whereas the SD 768G has up to QHD+ display at up to 60Hz or for high screen refresh rates, you can go for an FHD+ resolution with up to 120Hz smoothness.

8
5G Modem & Connectivity

The 5G department of both the Dimensity chips resemble a lot/ Both have an integrated 5G modem that comes with 5G-CA making the chip achieve a 5G downlink speed of up to 2.77Gbps. The chips also come with Dual 5G SIM, Dual Standby, and VoNR support for an all-around enhanced 5G connectivity in every situation. Global 5G NR and MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technologies are also implemented.

Coming to the Snapdragon 768G, there is Qualcomm’s X52 5G Modem integrated into the chip. This chip can have the following speeds in 4G and 5G areas.

  • 4G/LTE Speeds: 1.2Gbps D/L and 210Mbps U/L
  • 5G Speeds: 3.7Gbps D/L and 1.6Gbps U/L

Conclusion- Which one is better?

With the launch of Dimensity 700, MediaTek has definitely improved its 5G offerings in the mid-range segment. There are minor and ignorable downgrades in the chip, but the performance has not been compromised and provides a better value package.

However, the Snapdragon 768G is still the best among these three chips due to its better CPU, GPU, 5G Modem, etc., and if you’re looking for the best, the SD 768G is for you.
