MediaTek doesn’t need any introduction when it comes to the smartphone industry. The company has a diversified range of chipsets to cater to the different segments. This year the company is rumored to launch its flagship Dimensity 9400, which will directly compete against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Now, a well-known tipster Digital Chat Station reveals some important information regarding the upcoming Dimensity 9400 SoC.

According to the tipster, the chipset carrying model number MT6991 will use the latest Cortex-X5 CPU cores. In terms of CPU, it consists of having 1x Cortex-X5 powerful core, 3x Cortex-X4 cores, and 4 Cortex-A7 power-efficient cores. Therefore, it is an octa-core chip. The chipset further confirms using TSMC’s 2nd generation N3 (3nm) architecture. It is reported that Compared to the N5, TSMC N3E will reduce power consumption by 34%. Its performance will be improved by 18% at the same power and complexity, and logic transistor density will be increased by 1.6 times.

As far as clock speed is concerned, DCT added that the prototype device uses 3.4GHz, which can go beyond that when the final product will be delivered. In comparison to Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Dimensity 9400 seems to use a lower clock speed, because the Qualcomm chip is reportedly being tested above 4.0GHz. Thus, there might be a performance gap between these two chipsets. But when it comes to power efficiency, Dimensity 9400 can take a wholesome lead.

Indeed, MediaTek Dimensity is relatively popular among budget smartphones, while Qualcomm’s 8-gen lineup serves the high-end flagship phones. Accordingly, both MediaTek and Qualcomm are trying their best to improve the overall experience. As far as launch is concerned, the Dimensity 9400 is rumored to make its debut in October with the Vivo X200 series.
